Some stringed instruments of music, and two or three kinds of flutes and flageolets, are designatedin Egyptian by names borrowed from some Semitic tongue—a fact which proves that they were im-ported (Anastasi Papyrus, No. 4, pi. xii. 1. 1, et seq.); the wooden framework of the harp, decoratedwith sculptured heads of Astarte, figures among the objects coming from Syria in the temple of theTheban Amon (Prisse, Hist, de VArt Egyplien, vol. ii. pi. 99) ; cf. the cut on p. 2So of the present work. ° Several names of arms borrowed from some Semitic dialect have been noticed in the texts ofthis period.
