These franchisesare liberal and comprehensive, including iho right to carry freight. and the electric mechanism for operating the derails were illus-trated in the Review for October, 1900, page 604. Near Bellevueis an overhead crossing with stone abutments and steel super-structure. The other crossings are at grade and are protected byderailing switches in the tracks of the electric line, operated bythe conductors, Toledo is the western terminus of the line and entrance to thatcity is secured over the tracks of the Toledo Railways & Light,also owned by the Everett-Moore Syndicate, under a contract run-ning during the life of the present Toledo franchises and all reuewals. In additionto the franchises, the company owns and occupies a private rightof way for about 14 miles of the 62 miles of its total length, andit also owns considerable real estate in fee or occupies it underlicense which is used for its power house, sub-stations and carbarns, or in connection with its railway crossings for the purposeof avoiding sharp curves. On the way from Norwalk to Toledo, the Toledo, Fremont andNorwalk road crosses the line of 12 steam railroads, under per-petual crossing agreements.
