POWER HOUSE, iSq/. effect. For interior illumination the colored lights are verybeautiful, the only drawback being that the passengers havea great fondness for the globes and carry them away assouvenirs. Over 5,000 incandescent lamps are in use for these decor-ations ; in some cases as many as 5S0 lights are arranged ona train of three cars. To prevent the lamps being shortcircuited in wet weather thin rubber tubing is slipped overthe sockets. These lamps for decorating are entirely inde-pendent of the regular lights which are not disturlied at anylime. Along the middle of each roof is a No. 8 B. & S. insulatedwire and at either end is a copper socket. At four pointsalong the top of the car, connections are made through fuseblocks to the brass lugs, the second lug of each pair being

grounded to the truck. On the motor car there is a heavywire extending to the trolley pole. Except in the summerseason this wire is disconnected but all the other wiring,which is neat and substantial, remains in place. A flexiblecable with brass tips makes connection between the cars,but this is separate from the ordinary lighting circuit. Allconnections are made when the trolley is off the line. The decorating with bunting is no less systematic. Flagsand red, white and blue bunting, which will not fade after awetting, are used both for inside and outside. The draperyis strung on ropes and can quickly be put in place. A stripis gathered around each post, being tied with a white cord. An upholsterer attends to this part of the work and hasa sewing machine for repairing and making new draperies.The cars which are for party service have center aisles andthese are carpeted.
