Municipalauthorities generally demand underground conduits inthe city and allow overhead wires in the suburbs. A LONDON LAUGH. CORONERS juries have been responsible formany English funny stories. Recently, how-ever, a North Metropolitan conductor was sum-moned for crowding his car. The defendant said that thecar was full when two policemen boarded it, butthought that the policemen should not be counted. Why ? asked the learned council.Because they dont pay, replied the conductor.Whereat the court laughed and remarked: Sevenshillinifs five. Where a street railway company, organized under general laws, leasesits road to an individual, without legislative authority, it remainsliable to a passenger for injuries caused by the negligence of thelessee. Mayham, P. J.—This action was prosecuted for aninjury claimed to have been suffered by the plaintiff byreason of defendants negligence in the management ofits cars. The complaint alleges that the defendant was adomestic corporation, owning and operating a horse rail-road for the carriage of passengers and freight betweenthe villages of Johnstown and Gloversville; that the plain-tiff, at the time of the alleged injury, was a passenger onthe cars of defendant, and had paid the usual charges fortransportation; and that by the carelessness and negli-gence
