Illinois & Iowa railroads at Spring ValleyOf these crossings three are at grade and the others are either over-head or under crossings. The three grade crossings are all witiitransfer tracks or branch lines, none of the three main line rail- 132 STREET RAILWAY REVIEW. (Vol. XV, No. j. roads crossing at grade. The route of the electric line follows Illi-nois River quite closely for a greater part of its length, and for aconsiderable distance lies between the Illinois River and the Illinois&• Michigan Canal. The surface nf the cminlry i* bnikcn and in road leaves LaSalle it makes a crossing with the Illinois Centralrailroad, and has a short but steep descent of 7 per cent down tothe river valley. A short distance beyond this it crosses the Ver-million River, and the next and principal point of scenic interest

It also required the building of a numberof bridges. These condition- explain the fact that in building the on tlie route is Split Rock, several views of wliich are shown lierc-witli. .As will be seen from the illustrations, the formation of tliecountry at this point is very interesting.
