C. E. Lund, land-scape engineer, has spent much time and labor in laying out andbeautifying the grounds, A large number of elm, ash, hard maple,linden, white birch. Norway maple and Carolina poplars have beenplanted. Some of these trees are 12 in. in diameter and 40 ft. high,and were hauled for a distance of 25 miles on wagons. Shrubs, and C. J. Rcilly, superintendent of motive power of the ChicagoCity Railway Company, and the pipe fitting and machine workwas all done in the repair shops of the company. The fountain willbe 50 ft. in outside diameter and will have walls 3 ft. thick. Thearrangement of the water pipes and the 19 light-wells is plainlyshown in the plan and enlarged section of the fountain. Thewater is pumped out of the lake, which is at present supplied from

SANS SOUCI PARK—THEATER AND BAKU STAND. flowers and vines have been selected so that there will be bloomingplants from June to late in the fall. A concession has been granted for a Venetian gondola, which isan improved type of merry-go-round, and this will be located nearthe Japanese theater. A small zoo will be maintained, includingbirds, monkeys and other small animals. An artificial lake is onthe north side, and here will be black African geese, white ducksand other water fowl. A crew of log rollers has been engaged togive exhibitions on the lake. These men will show how logs are the city mains, but eventually it will come from two 6-in, artesianwells. The power house and operating station is on the north shoreof the lake. Two railway motors drive Quimby pumps, supplying300,000 gals, of water per hour, or running at full capacity thefountain jets will emit 5,000 gals, of water per minute.
