, the flue being lined with lire lirick for the first 90 feet,and from that point to the top ( 206 feet, 6 inches above thegrates) it is lined with tile. The draft secured is from i(to I inch of water, depending on atmospheric conditions. The steam pipes from the boilers all open into an 18-inchheader extending along the entire length of the west wall ofthe building. This header is of wrought iron, lap-welded,with cast-steel flanges, and is in three sections. These sec-tions are connected by expansion joints ^consisting of copperL-tubesof somewhat smaller diameter. From the header runsteam pipes to the engines, all the valves being located inthe boiler-room, just in front of openings in the partitionwall so that they can be easily operated from the engineroom. All valves about the buikling are Chapman gatevalves. The engine room is 70 feet wide and about 206 feet long.The engines are located on the east side of the ro<im.
