The street railway system of Concord comprises 12 miles andserves the principal streets and suburbs of this enterprising littlecity. The interurban line between Concord and Manchester is about line opens derailing switches on the other line so that if the signalis disobeyed the oflfending motorman or engineer will run his caror train oif tlie main track onto the ground, and out of the way ofthe one which has the right of way. The city system of Concord, known as the Concord StreetRy., operates about 29 cars, and the Concord & Manchester branchabout 16 cars. The city system is operated in connection withthe interurban branch, and both systems take power partly fromsmall generating plants owned by the Concord Street Ry., but prin-cipally from a sub-station at Hooksett, which is supplied with cur-rent frojTi the high tension transmission lines of the Manchester(N. H.) Traction, Light & Power Co.

Therails are relaying rails taken from the steam road, and weigh 76lb. to the yard. The track is laid with Weber joints on chestnutand white oak ties with 2 ft. or more of gravel under the entire trackbed. The bridges are of the most substantial construction and arestrong enough to carry ordinary trains drawn by steam locomotives.Small culverts, generally of east iron pipe, were put in at frequentinlervals to insure gocnl drainage, and the roadbed is ditched according to the Boston & Maine standard construction. Curves are ele-vated for speeds of 40 miles an hour. An interesting feature is found at a point near Bow Junction,where the electric railway crosses a long bridge in conjunction withthe steam railroad.
