The most important electric railway work being donein Chicago this fall, exclusive of the changing over fromhorses to electricity of the three great systems whichhave held sway on the north, west and south sides formany years, is the new plant of the Chicago GeneralRailway, a company that has extensive franchises in the southwest part of the city and which has been operatingfour miles of line on west Twenty-second street for overa year. The line now running has proved to be aremarkably paying one as was noted in a previous issue ofthe Review. It is simply a crosstown line and has nodowntown connection as yet. The traffic is at presentrestricted by the limited output of a temporary powerplant. The buildings are now almost com-pleted. The site chosen was on the corner of Thirty-first streetand Kedzie avenue a location nearly central to the terri-tory to be served and at the same time one which didnot necessitate any expensive crowding of power stationor car barns. The lot is bounded on the east by Ked-zie avenue, on the south by Thirty-first street, and onthe north diagonally by a branch of the Santa Fe Rail-road.
