The death of William Don, the workshops manager forthe Melbourne Tramway Company, occurred on March 8,1898, after a rather prolonged illness. The deceased wasborn at Brechin, Scotland. In 1866 Mr. Don emigrated tothe United States, where he was engaged for 18 years instreet railway work. After filling many important positionsin American street railway workings he came to Australiain 1884 under contract to the Melbourne Tramway Com-pany,, for which concern he superintended the erection ofthe present car and machine shops and also the making ofthe cable cars and dummies that are now in general use inthis city. Mr. Don was thoroughly respected by all in the company

STREET RAILWAY TRAIN IN BENDIGO, VICTORIA. NEW QUARTERS FOR BOSTON ELEVATED. The company has moved its offices from the cramped andnarrow rooms in which a portion of the business of the WestEnd Company has been carried on for more than ten yearsto the spacious quarters in the Converse building at the cor-ner of Milk and Pearl streets. The company occupies eightof the ten stories in the building, thus affording ample roomfor the immense work which the company will have to carryon and allowing it to concentrate its entire force, which wasscattered around in no less than five buildings all over thecity, into one building. The new building is considered anexcellent location for the offices of the company. The roomsare all well lighted, airy and cheerful, and equipped with ailmodern appliances of the most approvel character. The Montpelier (Vt.) & Barre Electric Railway wasopened on June 28. and well liked by all the employes at the works, and as amark of true respect and good feeling
