Between the back of the plates and iron frame a heavysheet of asbestos cushions the plates and gives addi-tional insulation. The wire is held in place by loopingseverals turns of it around protecting lugs formed onboth ends of each plate. The dimensions are 26 by 8by 3J4 inches. Facility in repairing is one of its strongestpoints. There are very few parts and those few are inter-changeable. The coils are guaranteed for two jears. When a Chicago alderman cannot find anj thing elseto do, he passes a street car ordinance. Such a condi-tion existed at a recent meeting of the city dad.«, and anordinance, which has not at this writing, taken effect,—was passed. It requires all street cars to receive and dis-charge passengers by stopping at the near crossing.
