Brill Company, of Philadelphia, have justdelivered six new cars to the Multnomah Street RailwayCompany, of Portland, Oregon, which are 31 feet 10inches over all, and 10 feet wide. They are mountedon two four-wheel trucks, and seat forty passengers.They are driven by two motors, and are attracting agreat deal of attention. George F. Hollingsworth, of Waltham, Mass., hasjust delivered his first car to the Newton Street RailwayCompanj^ who are much pleased with it. The car isbuilt after ideas furnished by Superintendent Henderson.The aisles are 46 inches and interior finish all of oakexcept door panels which are cherry. The car is heatedwith a Burton Electric Heater, while all the trimmingsare from Lewis & Fowler. Bemis Car Box Companystruck carries the car, all of which reflects much credit onthis new candidate for car orders.

98 BIG FIRE IN TOLEDO. PASSENGERS IN ST. LOUIS. ONE of the most disastrous conflagrations which hasoccurred in street railway Hnes in many monthswas that of the Toledo Electric Railway, ofToledo, O., which suffered a loss of its large car barn onCanton avenue, on the morning of January 20th. Thefire broke out at a little before 2 oclock, and originatedby^he overturning of a small lamp which had been leftburning in one of the Belt Line cars after it had been runinto the barn. The oil in the lamp soaked the cushionsand wood work of the car and was quickl)- ignited b)- asmall blaze from the lamp. The employes discovered the fire when it first startedand rushed to the fire stand for a pail of water, but onaccount of the extreme cold the pipe had become frozenand no water could be obtained. Before water could bebrought from other sources the fire was beyond theircontrol. The fire department responded promptl)-, but were un-able to save the building, and were obliged to confine theirefforts
