The cur-rent then passes into the trolley and feeder lines of the SaltLake City Railroad Company. On the 42 miles of track,27 motor cars are .operated. The power from the Big Cot-tonwood has only been in use since February 25th, but thesystem is so simple and complete that no difficulty is antici-pated. Two more dynamos arc yet to be installed and anothertransmission line put up to the city. With this abundantand cheap source of electrical energy the people of SaltLake City expect greater industrial activity in their pros-perous communit\. INTERURBAN EXTENSION IN NEW YORK. The Auburn & Western Railway Company has beenincorporated to build an electric line between Seneca Fallsand Auburn, N. Y. This railway will be about 10 mileslong and connect the Geneva, Waterloo, Seneca Falls &Cayuga Lake Traction Company with the Auburn City

This gives aworking pressure of about 190 pounds A Pelton waterwheel, about 60 in. in diameter, develops from this head ofwater about 1,000 h. p. at 3^0 r. p. m. The supply of water is such that the minimum flow willgive 2,500 h. p. with a possible development of 4,000 h. p.during 9 months in the year. A reservoir was built whichholds water sufficient to run the wheels for 24 hours. The electrical installation was the next problem and thiswas given to P. H. Knight to solve. Westinghouse appar-atus was selected throughout, C. F. Lacombe, western agentof that company at Denver, conducting the negotiations forthe sale, and superintending the setting up of the machinery.The dynamo, furnishing power for the street railway com-pany has a capacity of 1,000 h. p. The dynamo was con-nected direct to the Pelton Water wheel and an alternatingcurrent of 1,500 amperes at 500 volts is generated. Thi
