At the further end of the lake are situated picnicgrounds, which are private on picnic days, but at all othertimes open to the public, in common, with the rest of the admittance is free to all, whether the patrons of the carservice or not. As the resort is conducted on a strictlytemperance basis, the best of order is easily enforced,and first class people are liberal in their patronage of theprivileges. The company owns two steamers, the one referred toand a smaller boat, carrying 30. The steamer rides arereduced to the lowest paying price and are always liber-ally patronized, nay, jammed, at five cents a round trip.Sixty row boats, also owned by the company, standawaiting the pleasure of the aquatically inclined, at somuch an hour. The summer program consists of every variety of con-certs, fireworks, regattas, and dances, to which the city of Lowell, to the resort and return. They are soldat 20 cents. The longest possible ride on the system, istwenty miles which, is not often taken advantage of. The increase in passenger traffic, for the past fewyears, has been enormous.
