is a view of the park taken fromthe opixisite side of the river during a Chautauqua session, showingthe park lined with tents along the banks of the river. Duringthis meeting on one Sunday evening in .\ugusl, nj02, there were7.500 people in the park during the day and 5,500 on the grounds atone time. Ihe auditorium contained 4,)too people on this occasionand there were carried on the cars to the park 6,200 passengers.This large number of passengers was handled without crowdingin trains of one motor car and two trail cars which were run ontwo minutes headway, fifteen trains l>eing in .service. The crowdwas haiKlled by Mr. (ironcman, who announced the arrival anddeparture of the trains by ineaiis of a megaphone. Mr. Gronemanhas been very successful in organizing outings, large picnics, etc..at l>oth of the companys parks and has succeeded in booking alarge numlH-r of attractions which have added very largely to thepleasure traffic of the road. This consists of a number of boats connected to a centralshaft after the fashion of the ordinary merry-go-round, the wholebeing driven by an electric motor. The season at Harlem Park wasopened May 23d with a concert by the Thomas Orchestra, at whichCampanari, and other prominent soloists appeared. The auditor-ium building in which Chautauqua meetings arc held each year isa circular structure seating 3,000 people and containing a stagetoo .\ 50 ft. in area. The design of the building is unusual fromthe fact that it contains no columns whatever, the roof being sup-ported by trusses as shown in one of the illustrations. The ar-rangement of the scats is also shown and the building contains noflooring.
