The Sultan was defeated in a great battleat Dorylaeum, and his power crushed. Antioch, the great capital of northern Syria, was reached at last, and thecrusading army besieged it for seven months. It was finally captured throughthe art of Bohemond, who intrigued with a traitor among the defenders, wasallowed to scale a portion of the wall with his followers, threw open the gates,and admitted the Christian army. A fierce massacre of the defenders followed.
