Text Appearing Before Image:
homeward, across the stormy, vexed Indian Ocean, and round the Cape of Good Hope. But the invalids on board soon became worse, so that onthe 5th of January, 1771, they touched at Princes Island,a small well-wooded isiand at the western mouth of theStraits of Sunda, to get fresh provisions for them, as wellas wood and water, which were wanted on board. Off Madagascar greatnumbers of albatrosses were met with. Stewed albatrossthey had already found to be a very satisfactory dish. On, on, through the solitary waters, until the high, nakedmountains of the Cape—stern and desolate-looking afterthe rich scenery that had so long met their eyes—came insight; and on the 15th March the Endeav
