Theschool fund amounts to nearly three hundred thousanddollars. A State University, amply endowed, has beenlocated at Iowa City. The Stale Library contains aboutthree thousand volumes. There are one hundred and forty-eight churches in thestate, accommodating about thirty-eight thousand per-sons. Of the religious denominations, the Methodist isthe most numerous; next the Presbyterian; then the Ro-man Catholic, the Baptist, and the Congregationalists. Iowa, in every respect, is an important member of theUnion. In its extent of surface, climate, productions,commercial position, institutions, and the enterprisingspirit of the inhabitants, it promises soon to compete withthe older states in everything which will tend to promotothe prosperity of a great people.
