Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The site of Dunmere Junction. Dunmere Junction was where the Wenford Bridge Branch of the Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway diverged. This was the earliest steam-worked railway in Cornwall, opening only a few years after the better-known early railway in the north of England. The Wenford Bridge line never carried passengers, being used for goods traffic, especially china clay. The branch line passed through a gate (the present one is a modern replacement) which had to be unlocked to allow trains though. For a brief history of the line see http://www.ruralrides.net/rrncn8a.html The route of the line now forms the Camel Trail cycle path.
