It is from two and a half to threeinches in length; nearly two in breadth at the top, and an inch or lessat the cervix or neck, which is the lower part. In thickness, also, it is about one inch. Itsinternal cavity isvery small comparedwith the size of theorgan; this is owingto the extreme thick-ness of its muscularwalls, so built as toaccommodate thegrowing size of thefetus. This cavity inthe upper part, orbody of the womb, istriangular, with theFallopian tubesopening from its up-per angles. In thelower part, or neckof the womb, the cav-ity becomes morelong than broad,swelling somewhat atthe middle, and ter-minating by what iscalled the os uteri,or mouth of thewomb, opening into the vagina.
