That is some-thing for us to find outin our next lesson.Today we will try toremember that We must let ciga-rettes alone becausethey contain the poi-son, nicotine. A poison is some-thing that can hurt us. There are many dif-ferent kinds of poison. Each kind hurtspeople in a differentway. We must keep away from all kinds of poison. Then none of them can hurt us. (*) HOW CIGARETTES HURT THE HEALTH Did you ever know a bOy, or a girl either,who did not want to know why he had to docertain things, and why there were other thingsthat he could not do ? You found out yesterday why you ought notto smoke cigarettes,—because in every onethere is a little of the poison, nicotine. Today we are going to talk about some ofthe ways in which this kind of poison hurts

Part of our talk will be astory about THE THREE RS There were just three of them, two boys anda dog, and they were always together. The boys names were Ray and Rob, and thedogs name was Rover, but everybody calledthem the three Rs, because all their namesbegan with that letter. One day somebody gave Ray a package ofcigarettes, and both boys thought it would befun to smoke them. There were five cigarettes in the package, so Raykept two himself andgave two to Rob. Thenhe offered the otherto Rover, because theyalways shared every-thing with him. Rover coughed andshook his head. Hedid not like the strongbad smell. He gave itone lick, then he shookhis head again. Hedid not like the tasteany better. Ray and Rob gotsome matches andwent down by thebrook to try their cig-arettes. You can guess whathappened. They hadtaken only a few whiffsbefore they began tofeel sick. They thoughtthey were going
