There are two other specimens of the Lion Hunt scarab inmy collection. They are much mutilated en the faces, but retain, strangely, more of their original green colouring than the large andmore perfect specimen (No. 515). These were originally of smaller size, and the characters perhapsare rather more carefully engraved than most specimens. Strangeto say also the hieroglyphs vary in some instances, though themeaning they convey is of the same import. As this is rather aninteresting feature, engravings are given of them both, and theinscriptions set forth, as far as they exist, in clear type. Betweenthese two fragmentary inscriptions the whole story can be made out;for what is missing on one, exists on its companion. These speci-mens were found in different parts of Egypt.
