Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe ruins of Bodychen - geograph.org.uk - 977958.jpg |
English: The ruins of Bodychen This house was built by a branch of the family of Iorwerth Ddu ap Iorwerth ab Gruffydd ab Iorwerth of the clan o Matusalem ab Hwfa in the 13thC. Members of the family were prominent in national as well as local affairs. Hwlcyn Bodychen was killed c.1400 fighting with Owen Glyndwr against Henry IV while his grandson Rhys ap Llywelyn ap Hwlcyn (Rhys Bodychen, for short)was well rewarded by Henry VII for his service on the Bosworth battlefield. In later centuries the family declined and the estate became the property of outsiders and the house allowed to fall into ruin. |
