Vol. LXI, No. 4.) ENGINEERING JOURNAL. l6o STRONGS LOCOMOTIVE DUPLEX. A DOUBi.E-page engraving, from a photograph of thisremarkable locomotive, was published in the last numberof the JOURN.^L. This locomotive is, in many respects, a new departurefrom ordinary locomotive practice. It was built for heavymountain passenger service on the Lehigh Valley Kail-road, at the Wilkesbarre shops of tliat company, underthe supervision of Mr. Alexander Mitchell, Division Super-intendent of that line, from the design of Mr. George S.Strong. The engine, as will be seen from the engravingpublished last month, has si.x coupled driving-wheels. 62in. diameter, a four-wheel leading truck and a single-axleor pony trailing truck under the fire-boxes. The cylin-ders are 20 x 24 in. The total weight of the locomotive is137,000 lbs., of which 27.000 lbs. is on the leading truck,90,000 lbs. on the driving-wheels and 20,000 lbs. on thetrailing truck. This makes it probably the most power-iul passenger engine eve
