A comparison of the space occupied and the weights ofeach of the two sets installed wouUl be extremely unfair tothat of roo amperes, since its engine is, owing to an ex-igency, of exactly the same size as that used with the 200-ampere machines. Comparing the weights of the dynamos, 1,841 lbs. and3,370 lbs., with their outputs shows even then a slightdifference in favor of the 200-amprre machine, which mightbe expected, it giving 4.75 watts per pound to 4.34 wattsper pound of the loo-ampiire machine. In addition to the spaces required for setting and oper-ating the several generating sets, sufficient room must beallowed for the switch-board, which it practicable shouldbe arranged so that a person may pass behind it, and hav-ing a shell in front carrying the meters, and with the regu-lator boxes conveniently placed beneath the shelf ; if prac-ticable the steam separator and automatic trap should helocated in the dynamo-room, and space should further beallowed for oil and waste tanks, and a suitable locker forfools. Preferably the switch-board should be as near aspracticable to the commutator ends of the machines. Itshould be of such dimensions as may be required, and con-form in shape to the space assigned it. ICvery part of itis made of incombustible materials, the board being ofslate, the cut-out lilocks of porcelain, and the switchesbeing entirely of porcelain and metal.
