Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe pond of the Fife Ness tide mill - geograph.org.uk - 965371.jpg |
English: The pond of the Fife Ness tide mill Photographed at high tide, so the pond itself is not very clear. However, the line of scattered boulders marks the present top of the dam wall, with the high tide flowing in and filling the pond behind. In its day (it was mapped in 1775, and described in a document of 1790, as well as much earlier in 1537), the wall would probably have stood well above the water level. The tide mill itself is thought to have been located on the rocks on the left of the photograph, linked to an undershot wheel driven by the inflow and outflow of water from the tidal pond.
It is believed to have been a flour mill. |
