And among thosewho preached with verygreat success was Philip,one of the seven who wentto Samaria, and preachedChrist unto the people.And they all with oneaccord gave heed untothose things which Philipspake, hearing and seeingthe miracles which hewrought. And therewas great joy in thatcity. And there was a manat Samaria named Simon,whom we are accustomedto call Simon Magus, thatis, Simon the magician or conjurer ; because he used cunning arts like themagicians of Egypt. This man bewitched, or astonished the people withhis tricks, and they thought he was some most wonderful person. But whenthey heard the wonderful things about Jesus which Philip had to tell, andsaw how he cured the lame and the sick, and others, they would no longerbelieve in Simon Magus, but became disciples of Jesus; and Simon professedto be a disciple also.
