His companionsare the rats, the gecko-lizards, slimy toads, and cen-tipedes. Ha ! ha ! You tremble. But time presses.Quick, the diamond, or you are a dead man. I have known for years, said Antonio, as if togain time, where my dear, dear brother lies. PleaseGod he shall yet be free. The tiger-gleam in the mans eye was fierce now.The hand that held the twisted dagger quivered ratherthan shook; his white, clenched teeth gleamed likealabaster. Death or the diamond ? he cried once more.Death or the diamond—I care not which ? From under the sheet that covered Antonio camethe crack of a revolver. Dungloo tossed up his arms with a gasping scream,and fell in a heap on the floor.
