CANADA THE PEACHES OF NEW YORK IQI fleshed peach making, so many maintain, a better commercial varietythan its rival, Alexander. On our grounds Canada is freer from rot thanAlexander and the flesh does not cling as tightly. All agree that the treeis very hardy. However, there ought to be but small place in.the peach-lists of nowadays for a variety so poor in quality and with fruits of suchinferior size as those of Canada. The variety originated. as a chance seedling more than a quarter-century ago with A. H. High, Jordan, Ontario, Canada. It is often knownas Early Canada and is not infrequently confounded with Amsden andAlexander, varieties of the same season. Tree large, upright-spreading, open-topped, hardy, productive; trunk thick; branchesstocky, smooth, reddish-brown overspread with light ash-gray; branchlets with internodesmediiom in length, dark red, with a sHght tinge of green, glossy, smooth, glabrous, sHghtlycurving, with numerous conspicuous, large, raised lenticels. Leaves
