Summary
[edit]DescriptionThe only drinking water in my community.jpg |
English: Eziama Amechi Idodo is a town in Nkanu East Local Government Area, of Enugu State Nigeria. It lies between 6.33 in the North and 7.66 in the East with a population of about 35, 000 people. The community comprises seven villages; each village is made up of clans and kinsmen with different heads and chairmen representing them in the Town/Development Union. Town Unions are the downstream governance actors in communities. Globally, our community is located on 79.00m/259.19ft. The land itself is made up of loamy soil, generally swampy in rainy season and very dusty in dry season. The main occupation of the people is farming and petty trading and lack of water supply has been a source of worry to all the indigenes of this area. The only source of water in the community is Idodo River which is unwholesome and unfit for human consumption. But the inhabitants are drinking the water along with animals since we have no alternative source, and this gave rise to different types of water borne diseases such as typhoid, cholera, diarrhea, dysentery etc, which are prevalent in the community and often result to death of children within the age of five years and some adults have also fallen victim.
There are two possible alternatives of getting water in the community and they are through borehole construction or stream impoundment. There is need for intervention and the benefits from this intervention are enormous and cannot be overemphasized.
