The skywas cloudless, and the sun shone so hotlythat Robin, the blacksmiths son, took refugein the only shady spot he could find, under-neath the spreading branches of the greatsycamore that grew beside the village pondA stately swan floated on the still water halfa dozen yards away from him ; at the furtherside a goose was grubbing for food for heryoung ones, and a group of white ducks weresunning themselves on the bank, apparentlyasleep.
