to identify them. No Vul-tures was seen, to my surprise. Buttaking it altogether I think I got apretty good list of birds along such ashort route of three hours travel. After reaching Burnet we got in thetin lizzie and hit it for Ft. Worth,Texas, some three hundred miles over-land. Between Burnet and Lampassaswe saw twenty Sparrow Hawks in onebunch. Sitting on telephone wires,fence posts, etc. Between Adams-ville and Hamilton we passed throughthe best Vulture country that I everwitnessed. Vultures of both kindswere plentiful. The hills were highwith plenty rock bluffs and cliffs fortheir nesting grounds. Near WalnutSprings, Texas, we came upon a sixfoot rattlesnake in the road. We gotout and had a battle with him. Henever attempted to get away, but givefight at once, as he was making a coilready to spring at Mr. Maxon, a heavyrock hit him in the head and it wasgood-bye snake.
