Yellow-hammersnest in a hole under a rocky ledge; somany of the boys in the neighborhoodknew of the nest. It was robbed sixtimes of whole sets before I began toguard her nest. She at last hatchedher brood in the same nest. I put a lot of bird houses in thegrove about our home but flying squir-rels took possession of them. How-ever,a downy pecked the door of onehouse until it would admit her, (Imade it for Wrens) and was buildingwhen she left it, as a family of flyingsquirrels were in the apartment nextdoor. Two Thrushes and a Peweebuilt in the oaks about twenty feethigh. Great droves of Jays have noisi-ly visited us daily. I take a shot atthem for being so saucy sometimes. Ifear they will drive our cat birds andMocking birds away. I havent seena Mocking birds nest this season, butthe birds sing in our groves daily. Icaught some fine butterflies and mothsthis summer.
