s justly proud of a set of Killdeer,collected at Waynesburg, which is avery rare breeder there, as well as theegg of a Bachmanns Sparrow, whichis the only known record for that spe-cies breeding in Pennsylvania to myknowledge. He had rather ill luckwith this set as one is apt to have,when dealing with very rare birds..lames Carter is one of tomorrowsbird men, and Prof. Dickey and I de-sire frankly to introduce him as one,with whose articles the bird maga-zines will soon be filled Lastly, I visited the very extensivecollection of Mr. Warren Jacobs,whose group of abnormal eggs Is quitefamous. A great number of his eggsare in open show cases, which thoughthey display the eggs to great advan-tage, I should think wiser to be placedaway from the light. So valuable acollection is scarcely worthy for thevile day light. His collection aboundsin rare sets, such as Duck Hawk, andother eggs of much value. UJ ^ o ^ 111o5 I- 18 THE OOLOGIST Some of his eggeries are very beau-tiful as well as extensive—especiallythose of the Osprey, Bald Eagle andAlpamado Falcon. The most inter-esting part to me though, were thenative Pennsylvania eggs. A delightful walk was taken to aPileated Woodpeckes nest, where, ina great tree, I viewed a startlinglylarge entrance where doubtless themagnificent birds would have nested,were it not for the lumbermen disturb-ing them. I visited the class whichProf. Dickey has—an interesting setof twenty-five boys and girls, who,under the able guidance of theirteacher are now astonishingly inter-ested in their Avian neighbors. On the whole, Waynesburg couldbetter be called Eggsburg, or somesuch name, the place is so thorough-ly alive with bird people, and birdsthemselves. George Miksch Suttard.
