While this record of the unusuallength of the nesting peiiod of theseJuncos does not definitely determineit. still it sets one to thinking thatthere may be more than one brood aseason. I think further investigationsalong this line will verify the suspi-cion. In the Clearwater section of Idaho,I have seen a Spurred Towhee raisetwo broods in one season, buildingthe new nest for the second broodwithin a yard of the first. The sitewas within 10 feet of a public roadand practically in town. This birdwas evidently of a sociable disposi-tion, but she did not owe the success-ful rearing of her broods to the un-usual quality of the boys in the neigh-borhood or the dislike for Towheemeat by the cats in the vicinity. Shehad placed the nest in a large pile ofthcrn brush, impenetrable by eitherman or beast. The nesting song ofthe male drew me to the spot and Ieasily flushed the mother bird.
