Kolben fpeaks of it as common in Arabia, Forfcliul inPerfia, and Kampfer in China and Japan : it is alfo found in America,from Hudfons Bay to South Carolina; and was obfeived iike-vife byour navigators in fome of the iflands of the South Seas. The wild Goofe is rather lefs than the tame Goofe, aiid weighsabout ten pounds, while in a Ikle of tamenefs it frequently attains tothe weight of fifteen or twenty pounds, and often more : the lengthis about two feet nine inches, and the breadth five feet. The birdwe have chofen for the annexed figure is rather above the ufual ftand-ard, meafuring from the tip of the bill to the end of the tail, twenty-nine inches and a half, and was confidered, in refpe6l to plumage,a very perfe6l bird.
