rtainty :it is introduced as an extraordinary variety, the plumage beingthroughout of a much darker hue than in the former bird. Our prefent fabjecl is rather fmaller than the bird we have beforedelineated, and may prefent a tranfition in the grow th of this par-ticular fpecies; but this is uncertain, and we are rather inclined tothink it an adult variety than a younger bird. That thefe birds vary in appearance may be readily colle6led fromauthors ; in the fpecimen figured by Albin, the tail was uniformly ofone colour, without any bars, Linnaeus defcribes it as having only onecinereous band^ and the tip white, and the Britifli Zoology fpeaks of >r ■ ■ ■ Plale XXXI. Vol. H. three PLATE CCXXXIII. three dufky bars upon the tail; fometimes there are only two^ andocccalionally the white at the tips is wanting.
