It breeds onthe rocks and cliffs on our fhores and rivers which are contiguousto the fea, and is feen in vaft numbers on the Thames in fpring andWinter, picking up the fmall fifh, worms> &c. left by the tide. It is feen as far north as Iceland, Lapland, and the Ruffian Lakes%and alfo on the coaft of Newfoundland. It is an inhabitant of thewarmer climates of the fouth, as Greece, fome parts of Italy, andmod of the mores of the Mediterranean Sea* The length is feventeen inches: breadth thirty-fix inches, andweight one pound.
