The colours of the female do not exa£llycorrefpond with thofe of the male s the head of the former is fer-ruginous, and flightly crefted ; cheeks, chin, and throat, white; be-tween the bill and the eye the fame oval fpot as in the male; breaflclouded with grey \ belly white j legs pale aih. It is generally calledthe Lough Diver, It PLATE XX.. It vifits this country only in the winter; on the Continent it isfound as far fouth as Carniola j is alfo found in Iceland, and is fup-pofed to breed and remain there during the winter, or that it pailesto fome other ar6lic reo^ion. It has been obferved with the Merg-an-fers, Ducks, and other Water Birds in their migratory courfe up theWolga in February *. It alfo inhabits America^ having been fent from New-York j.
