hin a mile of vSeal Harbor. It lies less than a mile northeast ofNortheast Harbor. It is surrounded, in short, by a large summer population. This area includes four lakes and no less than ten mountains. The lakesare Jordan Pond, Eagle Eake, Bubble Pond, and Sargent Mountain Pond. TheBowl lies just outside the boundary line. The mountains, several of which arewidely celebrated, are Green Mountain, Dry Mountain, Picket Mountain, WhiteCap, Newport Mountain, Pemetic Mountain, The Tryad, Jordan Mountain,The Bubbles, and Sargent Mountain. The lands included in the Sieur de Monts National Monumxnt have neverformed a part of the public domain, but, through the patriotism and generosityof the former owners, known collectively as the Hancock County Trustees ofPublic Reservations, were presented to the United States. The trustees wererepresented in the matter by Mr. George B. Dorr, of Boston, who, in the creation ofthis national monument, attained the object of years of public-spirited endeavor.

Montezuma Castle MONTEZUMA CASTLE NATIONAL MONUMENT T^HIS remarkable relic of a prehistoric race is the principal feature of a■ well-preserved group of cliff dwellings in the northeastern part of YavapaiCounty, Arizona, known as the Montezuma Castle National Monument. Theunique position and size of the ruin gives it the appearance of an ancientcastle; hence its name. The structure is about fifty feet in height by sixty feet in width, built in theform of a crescent, with the convex part against the cliff. It is five stories high,the fifth story being back under the cliff and protected by a masonry wall fourfeet high, so that it is not visible from the outside. The walls of the structureare of masonry and adobe, plastered over on the inside and outside with mud. DEVILS TOWER NATIONAL MONUMENT T^HIS extraordinary mass of igneous rock is one of the most conspicuous-*■ features in the Black Hills region of Wyoming.
