Text Appearing Before Image:
In the British Museum. About eighteen miles west of the city of Oaxos,^ in thesame district, we perceive the remains of the ancient city ofEleutherna, the site of which is marked by a Greek monasteryof the same name. Among the remains of the city are manyancient edifices, part entire and part in ruins; columns, aque-ducts, cisterns—some of which, of immense size, are cut out ofthe live rock, and supported by groves of columns and ex-pansive vaults as of great temples, all of which are so enormousas to strike the eye with wonder and amazement at the ^^owerand riches of the people that could afford to rear such statelymonuments. Many coins are found here. SYBRITIA.
