ant Industry is in a positionto furnish information on the nearest or m.ost accessible somce ofclean seed for any region. Data have been secured on the prevalenceof other diseases and msect pests in all cane regions, so that reason-able security against the dissemination of other cane maladies isassured. EXCLUSION. There are at the present time (October, 1919) a number of largecane areas in the United States not yet mvaded by the mosaicdisease. Cane planters in these areas should urge the enactment of MOSAIC OF SUGAR CANE AND OTHER GRASSES. 23 State legislation prohibiting the importing of cane into them fromany source whatever until such time as it can be accompanied by anauthentic certification of health. Such areas include the entireBayou Teche district and the parishes to the north in Louisiana,consisting of St. Mary, Iberia, Vermilion, Lafayette, St. Martin,Acadia, St. Landry, Avoyelles, and Rapides. This is, of course,the most important disease-free area. (Fig. 2.) Other similar
