Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The modern reduction area of the now mothballed Graig-ddu Quarry These modern sheds are located on the eastern side of Manod Mawr mountain and are linked with the Graig-ddu pit by a lorry roadway. Naming the various sections of these quarries is a complex process. The sheds stand on the site of the old Bwlch y Slaters Quarry, also referred to as the 'New' Manod Quarry, 'Old' Manod is also the name of a quarry above this site, west of Graig-ddu. Under McAlpine's ownership Graig-ddu is known as Cwt-y-Bugail. The real Cwt-y-Bugail Quarry, sometimes called the New Wales Slate Quarry, lies another 2km to the north. Confused? You are not alone.
