MR. AND MRS. HENUERSON. IV. HENRY HENDERSON. Henry Henderson was a son of the Manse, his fatherbeing the late Rev. Dr. Henderson of Kinclaven, inPerthshire, where he was born in 1843. ^^^ oldchurch and Manse stand in a charming rural spotclose by the Tay, without even a village near, so thathis earliest impressions of Gods great world weregathered from a beautiful picture of j&eld and woodand river, with the blue hills behind,—the stillnessunbroken by the roar of the city, and Gods clear skyundimmed by any cloud of earthly smoke. It was nowonder that all his life he loved to be where Naturesbook was open to him, and that he could never feel athome among the restraints of city life. He received the godly and hardy upbringing whichso often has made the sons of the Manse the men theyare. His father, who was somewhat of the sternertype of the old school, taught his sons himself tillthey were fourteen, and then sent them off to schooland college; but to Henry, who was the youngest,th
