or, he is easily persuaded to waittill the appointed time comes. A small gong should be used in each shop for signaling aclass: when to break ranks and go to work, when to assembleat the teachers bench, when to clean up, when to file out ofthe room, etc. Each division before leaving the shop shouldbrush off the benches, machine tools, and other appliances inuse, restore all tools to their places, and put all in order for thenext division. This takes but two or three minutes, and itencourages the formation of a habit of order. The floor shouldbe cleaned every night by the janitor. Forge and metal work is impossible without soiled hands andfaces; and the students should be encouraged to remove alltheir linen, and to put on blouses which shall thoroughly pro-tect their underwear. A good wash in warm water with plentyof soap, followed by the use of a clean, dry towel, will bringthe young workmen back to the schoolroom none the worse fortheir physical contact with the entities of the shop.
