Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The manse at old Kinneff Kirk The site of one of the most important episodes in Scottish history. When Cromwell marched into Scotland in 1651, Parliament ordered that the Honours of Scotland (crown, sceptre and sword)be removed to Dunnotar Castle for safety. Shortly before the castle garrison surrendered, Mrs Grainger, wife of the minister at Kinneff helped smuggle the regalia to safety, initially to the manse at Kinneff. Thereafter her husband buried them under the church floor. There they remained until the Restoration of 1660 when they were returned to Edinburgh Castle, where they remain to this day.
