Text Appearing Before Image:
Mr. Warfield says, From theday the resolutions were passed his career wascertain, and so long as he lived, certainly afterthe death of George Nicholas, which was near athand, he held the first place in his party in Ken-tucky, both in the eyes of his fellow-citizens andof the leaders beyond the bounds of the state.Mr. Warfield does not claim to have reached thefinal solution of the problerhs of authorship andinterpretation, but he handles the evidence withsuch lawyer-like and convincing candor that hispersonal belief in the matter is conspicuouslyapparent. In his chapter on the doctrinesand effects of the resolutions, he shows thatgreat latitude of interpretation may be given, and that the meaning of parts of this politicalmanifesto are very dependent on the special ap-plication in view. The work is admirably done.it is a study that abounds in information, and isparticularly valuable to young men who are inpursuit of all that relates to our countrys past, irrespective of political bias.

As the British landed on thebeach a number of the inhabitants gathered near a house on what formany years was known as the Hazard farm. A few cannon shot, one ofwhich penetrated the farm-house, scattered the patriots, and the invaderstook up their march towards Danbury. This house, after the retreat ofthe British, served as a hospital for the American wounded. And it wasthe home in early youth of Chancellor Kent. F
