She has made a bookthat every one will feel that they must possess.It would be difficult to say which part of this lit-tle volume is best—the shorter or the longer ex-tracts. It is all captivating and instructive.From one of his sermons we find the followingquotation : The church is not obligatory anymore than Fulton Ferry is. I can refuse tocross the river on the ferryboat, and say, I wontpay the cent or two cents ; I am going to swim.I should have a right to swim if I preferred, butI should be a fool if I did. And if you say, Ido not want to join the church, you are underno obligation to join it. And there are few whocan read the last thing in the book, The OldMans Journey, describing the death of TommyTaft (from Norwood), without a constantstruggle between tears and laughter, and a finalfeeling of tenderness and trust in the DivineFatherhood that a thousand sermons would failto produce.
