t asked us to do, andthere is no taint of profiteering on ourescutcheon. We are poorer in pocketbook becausewe took the government contracts. - We would have made more by meet-ing the regular commercial demandsfor Acco products. But we are richer in honor. Every member of the Acco familywas glad to give his or her best towin the war. We forged thousands of tons ofanchor chains, chains for the steeringgear, for the hoists, needed for thefighting ships and the emergency fleet. We made chains in quantities neverheard of for logging camps, for ship-yards, for steel mills. We made a million and a half ormore pounds of chain for our 100,000freight cars in France. Seven million pounds of towingchains were needed for our motortrucks abroad, to say nothing of thechains for the artillery, for transportwagons, for the repair plants.
