veyard came forward to view the monument.During the exercises a large throng was gath-ered in the vicinity of Fayette and Greene streets,unable to gain admission to the female highschool or the churchyard. THE MONUMENT. The monument is of the pedestal form, and iseight feet high; the surbase is of Woodstockgranite, and six feet square, the balance beingof Italian marble. The pedestal has an Atticbase, three feet ten inches square; the die blockis a cube three feet square and three feet twoinches high, relieved on each face by a square-projecting and polished plane, the upper anglesof which are broken and filled with a carvedrosette. On the front panel is the bas-relief bustof the poet, modelled by Frederick Volck froma photograph in possession of Mr. Neilson Poe.The other panel contains an inscription of thedates of the birth and death of Poe. THE MONUMENT ERECTED IN MEMORY OF POE AT BALTIMORE.November 17th, 18T5, DEDICATION OF THE MONUMENT. 313 cle. The frieze is ornamented at the angles byrichly carved acanthus leaves, and in the centreby a lyre crowned with laurel. The whole iscapped by a blocking three feet square, cut to alow pyramidal form. The monument is simpleand chaste, and strikes more by graceful outline,than by crowding with unmeaning ornament.It was designed by Geo. A. Frederick, architect,and built by Col. Hugh Sisson. A TRIBUTE FROM THE STAGE. A pleasing feature of the ceremonies was theplacing upon the monument of a large wreath offlowers, made up principally of camelias, liliesand tea roses. Together with this, was depos-ited a floral tribute in the shape of a raven, madefrom black immortelles. The large petals ofthe lilies suggested the bells immortalized byPoes genius, the significance of the other em-blems being obvious.
